Two weeks, high heat and some rain
The radishes are the first of the year and were picked at the end of the tour.
It’s been 14 days since I last posted a garden status, since that time we’ve had the gamut of weather. Sadly I’ve had to resort to watering from the hose-pipe as we were without rain for most of that. Last weekend temperatures approached 100F and set some records, then this week we had cool weather and a gentle rain that lasted about 36 hours.
Two weeks ago the garden looked like this:

Potatoes growing well. I need to add more soil (again)
Peas just starting to fruit
Black eyed peas in a pot
Squashes to the left; tomatoes and brassicas to the right
Chard about ready to be thinned
So that’s where we are at the moment, I do have something(s) that are snacking on foliage, haven’t caught anything in the act but I’m working on it.

Beautiful David! It sure has put on a lot of growth in these past two weeks. I have nasty bugs attacking my foliage too, but they must be doing it while I sleep ’cause I can’t find them.

Between the heat and the bit of rain everything exploded! – So far just radishes, lettuce and now chard, but the big stuff is coming!

Those raised beds certainly help to keep things under control. If only the rain and the sunshine could get their act together! (Rain at night, sun during the day would be ideal, wouldn’t it?) We have had fairly similar conditions to yours – a period of about 10 days of hot dry weather, and now several days of cold windy weather with drizzle and occasional rain. My Asparagus has responded well to the moisture though. The spears grow several inches in a day!

Thx OFG, the round is a spun polypropelene container, There are in fact two of them. You start withe them rolled down, add a layer of growing medium, then as the plants grow you unroll and top up with more dirt. Allegedly they last two seasons so they are a bit pricey. Should make harvest easier!

Wow, David! Your garden looks great! So much progress in 2 weeks and those radishes are about as perfect as can be. Such a great photo to open a post about a garden’s progress. My tomatoes, though not quite as good as yours, are doing much better than last year at this time. May they all — your many and my few — continue to do so well. 🙂

We know the tomatoes love the heat but for everything else it was a little early. I hope to get the broccoli going before it bolts. The tomatoes have flowers but no fruit yet.

Hi David,
Really interesting seeing how all our gardens dramatically change over just a couple of weeks. Everybody seems to be getting this odd weather too-one minute boiling hot and the next, pouring rain. Is it a wonder then that we get so excited when we see encouraging signs of growth…The joys of gardening-long may it continue!!

My wife said to me radishes look very cool in pictures, and I agree. Yours especially. Your carrots are several weeks ahead of mine. Everything looks delicious, glad you got some rain. It doesn’t take much for everything to take off.

I think radishes are naturally photogenic! We need more rain…. heat is coming… hopefully rain too.
